What to do in Venice when it rains

Rainy season in Venice

Thunderstorms in Venice can bring very heavy Venice rain but no normally very long lasting in the summer. If it does rain so hard as to drive you indoors there are lots Venice things to do into to escape the rain. Even if you are already thinking about the big Venice museums when you have Venice vacation. In the Summer it's more short sharp showers than prolonged rain. Venice travel guide says that there are so many beautiful Churches and Museums and forecasts at the end of the day are not always right. Several hundred churches, most of which are free and most of which are decorate with wonderful art are Venice activities.
You can also buy a E9 Venice pass to the Chorus Churches such as Basilica dei Frari which are the most treasured churches. Several schools as Scuola di San Rocco which are sort of the equivalent of Guild houses, also decorated by famous Venetian artists. Many Venice museums including the Academia which in my opinion is the one not to be missed. Some like the Guggenheim but I was not very engaged by what it had to offer. The ducal palace and prisons. Shops of course, especially around the market area. Musical soirees in the evening.
A chorus church belongs to an association called Chorus. There are 16 churches that belong, and if you buy a Chorus Pass, it's less expensive to visit them - if you plan to visit more than three. I renewed acquaintance with the Redentore on Giudecca, San Giacomo dell'Orio in Santa Croce and Sant'Alvise in Cannaregio. All with very interesting art and architecture. I also stopped in Santa Maria della Salute (not a Chorus church but entrance free) to listen to some nuns singing beautifully. If you're anywhere near the Aresenale when the rain starts, try the Museo Storico Navale - you can easily spend an hour or 2 wandering around there.
Of course you must be glad the rain forced you to stop for Venice coffee. For example you can sit at one of the elegant 18th-century Venice cafe (Florian and Caffe Quadri, with tables spilling out into the sunlight from the shadows of the Renaissance colonnades) and peer at one of Europe’s most unusual churches, the golden Byzantine Basilica di San Marco. The Peggy Guggenheim Museum of Modern Art has a good cafe in the gardens if you do not appreciate the art! Similarly Ca'Rezzonico has a useful cafe in the great entrance hall.. Visit also Venice theater or Venice concerts. That`s why don`t stay in the Venice hotel there are a lots to do!
