June 2017, 16.06 20:00 Seu Jorge: The Life Aquatic Tour - Milwaukee, WI (USA) - 16/06

Seu Jorge is one of Brazil’s most talented and acclaimed artists. Jorge first came to international attention as one of the leads in the film City of God, and then as the enigmatic David Bowie-singing sailor in Wes Anderson’s 2004 movie The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou. In the film Jorge performs Bowie’s songs, including Rebel Rebel, Life On Mars? and Starman, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar.

In a deeply personal tribute, the Brazilian singer/songwriter puts on his red toque to take his audience on an emotional journey through his bossa-flavoured Bowie covers, songs which were never performed in front of a live audience until 2016.

‘Had Seu Jorge not recorded my songs in Portuguese, I would never have heard this new level of beauty which he has imbued them with.’ - David Bowie

Wilco
plus special guest TBA
Sunday, June 18
Doors 6:30PM / Show 7:30PM
The Riverside Theater

Produced by Jam Productions, Ltd & The Pabst Theater Group

On the heels of a sold out tour, of which The Chicago Tribune deemed “defiant, bold and, at times, menacing,” Wilco is thrilled to announce additional dates in June including a stop in Milwaukee. The recent sold out tour included a four night sell-out run at The Chicago Theatre for close to 14,000 fans. Don’t miss your chance to see Wilco for one night only when they play the Riverside Theater.

This tour will be in support of the acclaimed Chicago band’s 10th studio album, Schmilco (dBpm Records). Schmilco is the sextet’s follow up to last year’s surprise release, the raucous Star Wars. “Quiter, but not safer” than its 2015 predecessor said The Chicago Tribune, “...as comforting as this album can sometimes sound on the surface, it's also strange and unsettling.” It is available now for purchase in all formats: digital, CD and vinyl, through wilcoworld.net, iTunes, Amazon and at local independent record stores.

  July 2017, 02.07 11:00 Impeachment March - Milwaukee

On Sunday, July 2nd, we march to demand Congress DO THEIR JOB and remove Donald Trump from The White House.

According to Robert Reich:

By my count, there are now four grounds to impeach Donald Trump. The fifth appears to be on its way.

First, in taking the oath of office, a president promises to “faithfully execute the laws & the constitution.” That’s Article II Section 2.

But Trump is unfaithfully executing his duties as president by accusing his predecessor, president Obama, of undertaking an illegal and impeachable act, with absolutely no evidence to support the accusation.

Second, Article I Section 9 of the Constitution forbids government officials from taking things of value from foreign governments. But Trump is making big money off his Trump International Hotel by steering foreign diplomatic delegations to it, and will make a bundle off China’s recent decision to grant his trademark applications for the Trump brand – decisions Chinese authorities arrived at directly because of decisions Trump has made as president.

Third: The 1st Amendment to the Constitution bars any law “respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” But Trump’s ban on travel into the United States from 6 muslim countries – which he initiated, advocated for, and oversees – violates that provision.

Fourth: The 1st Amendment also bars “abridging the freedom of the press.” But Trump’s labeling the press “the enemy of the people,” and choosing who he invites to news conferences based on whether they’ve given him favorable coverage, violates this provision.

A fifth possible ground if the evidence is there: Article II Section 3 of the Constitution defines “treason against the United States” as “adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.”

Evidence is mounting that Trump and his aides colluded with Russian operatives to win the 2016 presidential election.

Presidents can be impeached for what the Constitution calls “high crimes and misdemeanors.” The question is no longer whether there are grounds to impeach Trump. The practical question is whether there’s the political will.

Volunteer with The Humane League at Warped Tour to help animals this summer!

We won't actually be going into the show, so no need to purchase tickets. Please don't wear vegan message shirts, but do feel free to dress casually since this is a music festival and fun atmosphere :)

We'll provide the booklets, you provide the arms and smile to distribute them :) Leafleting is effective, fun, and an easy experience. Warped Tour is a great atmosphere for a first-time leafleter!   April 2019, 13.04 12:00 Release Your Tax Returns MKE County Courthouse Rally & March

Rally & March at the Milwaukee County Courthouse on Tax Day

Reset for Next Year!

This march isn't just about papers – it's about transparency and social justice.

Donald Trump is the first office holder to refuse to release his tax returns to the public, since it became normal and expected in half a century. We march to demand that he release his returns, as he has repeatedly promised, but failed, to do.

We march because it is in the best interest of the American people to know what financial entanglements and conflicts of interest our leaders have. Because we need to know if Trump and his family are personally profiting from the policies and practices of the administration.

We march because we will not stand by while the rich and the powerful govern this country guided only by their personal best interests, and not the best interests of the American people as a whole.

WE DEMAND TRANSPARENCY AND SOCIAL JUSTICE!

This is one of many direct actions taking place across the country. Our event will kick off at 11AM on the South lawn of the Milwaukee County Courthouse. There will be a number of guest speakers, followed by a sidewalk march. The march will go from 9th Street to Wisconsin Avenue, then down to Water Street. From Water Street, it will march down to Wells Street and back to the County Court House. In the case of poor weather, the route will be abbreviated.
